Language is fundamental to learning and is the foundation of the whole curriculum. Every aspect of the children’s work is influenced by the extent to which they use language with imagination and accuracy. Competence in speaking and listening, reading and writing, is encouraged throughout the curriculum in order to enable the children to communicate appropriately and effectively.
The English Curriculum will help you see what needs to be covered by all children in KS2 (click for the download). The staff design the curriculum you can find below from these expectations.

Children learn to develop their skills in number and the principles of shape, space and measurement and of handling data in a variety of situations.
There is a strong emphasis on developing mental mathematical skills and its practical application. There are also strong links between mathematics and all other curriculum areas as well as ICT. We believe that children should be given the opportunity to reach their full potential and therefore provide accelerated groups for high ability children in each year group. We also ensure all children are given extra support to help them gain confidence in the subject when necessary.

At Stag Lane the children follow a science programme based on the National Curriculum which is varied but developmental.
Our aim is to ensure the children have a clear understanding of the natural world through exploration, communication and investigation and to encourage their awareness of how science impacts our daily lives. We also aim to develop enquiring minds so they can make informed decisions about modern developments in the scientific world.
We provide additional opportunities for pupils to develop greater awareness of environmental science through school trips and journeys. Please click here to see the work we cover: Science Coverage and Science medium term plans.
