Teaching and Learning

We provide a broad, creative and challenging curriculum which develops the children’s knowledge, self-confidence and imagination.

We strongly promote inclusion and have Teaching Assistants in classrooms to assist the class teachers in delivering the curriculum to all pupils. Extra support is given to very able pupils, those who are new to speaking English and those who find learning difficult.

We regularly review the curriculum on offer to ensure it is relevant to our pupil population.

We lay great emphasis on children’s health and well-being as well as creativity and our curriculum reflects this. All children are taught how to keep healthy and active and basic first aid and resuscitation in Year 6. In addition, we greatly value the Arts and offer enrichment activities such as dance, drama and music as it gives pupils opportunities to excel in various areas of the curriculum. In this way we promote Article 29 of the UNCRC. Over the course of the year we offer trips to enhance learning or invite professionals in to run projects for the children. Our pupils report that these workshops are particularly helpful in their learning as well as being memorable. There are photographs of some of our workshops on the website so please do take some time to look at what pupils have experienced.

The children are taught through both cross-curricular themes and individual subjects, as is appropriate. Teachers use a variety of teaching methods according to each child’s needs.
