Rights Respecting Steering Group
The steering group guides and informs the activities of the whole school so that we maintain the ethos and status of a Level 2 Rights Respecting School. It’s work is underpinned by the following principles:
It has the support of the head teacher, governing body and senior management team from the outset. The steering groups provides a link between children and young people, teachers, senior management team, governors and the whole school community
It has the influence and ability to drive forward change and to take the lead in developing and delivering the school’s RRS action plan
It represents a cross section of the school community and to ensure that the whole school is aware of the Rights Respecting Schools Award
The group ensures that working towards the RRSA is not a ‘teacher only’ initiative
It is underpinned by Article 12 - Every child has the right to have a say in all matters affecting them, and to have their views taken seriously.
Forming the steering group
At the beginning of every academic year, the membership of the steering group is analysed. This year six experienced members remained on the committee and applications/ interviews took place for new members.
- All children were invited to apply to be a member of the RRSA steering group.
- This year we received thirty five applications from across the school.
- Using the criteria and job description of an exemplar RRSA pupil, the applications were shortlisted by the experienced members of the steering group.
Year 4 = Siham and Tareem
Year 5 = Vishali, Ishan and Sarika
Year 6 = Thanisha, Devisha, Harini and Atika
